Getting the show into OBS
BobbleHub builds the picture. OBS streams it. The connection between them is NDI, which is why NDI and DistroAV are on the setup list.
If you haven't installed those yet, start at What do I need to run a game?.
Adding the picture#
- In OBS, add a source and choose NDI Source.
- Open its properties and pick the source with BobbleheadStreams Program in the name.
The name is prefixed with your computer's name, so it reads something like:
DESKTOP-ABC (BobbleheadStreams Program)
Pick Program, not Preview. Both may be listed. Preview is your working picture — the one you use to line up the next shot — and putting it on your stream would show your audience the shot you haven't taken yet.
Getting the sound in#
The NDI connection carries picture only. All of your audio reaches the stream through OBS, from two separate places:
Voices come from Discord. Capture it the way you'd capture any application's audio in OBS — most streamers already have this set up, because it's the same thing you'd do for any voice-chat game.
Music cued from BobbleHub's Sound tab plays out of your computer's speakers like any other app. To get it on the stream, OBS needs to be capturing your desktop audio.
If you cue a music bed and can hear it but your audience can't, that's this — the picture is arriving over NDI and the sound isn't following it, because it never does.
Watching your own show#
Don't add a second NDI source just to see what's going out. BobbleHub has an Output tab that shows the programme full-size inside the app.
That exists so you never have to raise the show engine's window mid-show, which is the thing most likely to interrupt what your audience is watching.
Troubleshooting#
There are no BobbleheadStreams sources in the list at all#
DistroAV is what lets OBS see NDI sources, and OBS won't show an NDI Source option without it. See Installing DistroAV.
If NDI Source is in the menu but the list is empty, the show engine probably isn't running yet — check the connection pills at the top of the BobbleHub window.
OBS shows the source but the picture is black#
Check you picked Program rather than Preview. A preview with nothing framed on it is legitimately black.
If it's Program and still black, the scene may not be loaded — a show engine with no scene has nothing to send.
My audience can hear the game but not the music#
OBS isn't capturing your desktop audio. The music plays out of BobbleHub like any other program; it doesn't travel over the NDI connection.
My audience can hear music but not voices#
That's the Discord capture rather than BobbleHub. Voices never pass through BobbleHub at all.
The picture is delayed against the voices#
Add a small sync offset to the audio in OBS. Video takes a moment longer to travel than audio does, and OBS is the right place to line them back up.
Which source is Preview and which is Program?#
The names say. Program is what's on air; Preview is your working picture. If only one is listed, your show engine is publishing one output and that one is Program.
